Egg tempera and embossed gold leaf on wood panel.
The portrait of Robin shows two of her capacities in words, and the others in images (Pleasure and Openness) and in the eternity symbol, which represents Connection and Insight to her.
The upper part of the left panel is an image from the painting The Kiss by Edvard Munch. The faces blend into one as they kiss, suggesting the fluid connection, full self expression, and deep pleasure that are possible in intimate relations.
Below The Kiss, the darkness of the bodies becomes a stage on which Robin appears before an audience. She is bathed in light by the glowing audience, and her light in turn illuminates them; this image is inspired by the final scene of Billy Elliot, an image of connection, insight and compassion.
When Robin works from a place of compassion and humility in her acting, she can speak to, and for, others and help them understand themselves. By seeing into herself, she also gives light to others. Simultaneously, the attention of the audience allows her to be much bigger and brighter; together she and the audience connect to the Universal.
The upper part of the right panel is from a story Robin loved in childhood. The boy (who is also Robin) climbs a tree to pick the moon for his girl friend; he does this every night and it is always something new and wonderful for her to enjoy. For Robin this symbolizes overflowing abundance, compassion, and connection between the male and female Self. The bright glow of the moon also echoes the light of compassion, connection and insight in the lower left panel.
Below the boy and the moon, Robin and her dad waltz together in the moonlight, a happy memory from childhood. Being led in the waltz, swept into twirl after twirl, was an experience of incredible beauty and joy for her; it represents an unfulfilled longing for a state of grace.
In the center panel Robin is surrounded by a happy landscape from childhood: Schloss Elmau, the mountains, Alpine wildflowers, all symbols for her of pleasure, abundance, and connection.
The frame above her portrait follows the sensual curves of the female body (representing pleasure, abundance, and connection), and arching over the whole painting is the night sky, an image of wonder, mystery, and openness to the universe, magically combined with the warm maternal abundance implied by the milk in the Milky Way.
